Hmm. But… what if it does happen? What if your system corrupts or a virus gets in and everything is wiped? What would you actually do? Could your business function? How much money would you lose as a result?
It sounds like scaremongering, but think of it like car insurance. Sure, that’s a legal requirement, but you wouldn’t be without it because if your car was written off and you weren’t insured, you’d have to find thousands of pounds to replace it.
So why do so many businesses fail to put the same emphasis on their data? It’s madness!
This exact thing happened to a major energy supplier recently. A great big company without a back up plan! They contacted us in a panic because their previous developer went bust and as a result everything they had disappeared into the ether. They had potentially lost everything. Hundreds of thousands of records. Shudder.
We swept in and replicated their code, switched their hosting and took over management of their site. Basically, we saved their bacon! It must have been a real gut wrenching time for the client, as there could have been catastrophic results.
Yes, it is possible to sort out issues like this but it takes time and there is obviously a cost implication. Isn’t it better to just have a robust back up plan in the first place and save yourself the hassle and heartache?
