Apple launched its latest software update on the world yesterday, and – finally after 9 gruelling hours of watching and waiting while Apple’s servers struggled to cope- we’ve updated all our devices.

So what’s new?

The most major of the changes is a redesigned interface, displaying icons that are more stylised, along with a cleaner, sharper font.

The new control centre can be accessed by swiping upwards at the bottom of the screen, and appears to be a useful function. You can switch to flight mode, and turn your wifi, Bluetooth and do not disturb features on and off much more easily now.

AirDrop is an interesting feature. It allows you to send data to another device very simply and quickly. Just think about your settings on this though, as the ‘everyone’ setting could lead to some interesting items coming your way. And watch what you click, as we were playing with this and accidentally sent a very strange voice memo (another updated feature) by mistake!

Initial grumblings are the fact deleting emails now has to be a right to left swipe and the removal of the ‘press and hold’ option to close apps. (Although it is easy to close apps by simply swiping upwards, but this is slower and, well, just different.)

The loss of music and the ability to search are bugs we’ve encountered on an individual device, but the imminent upgrade to the iPhone 5s will hopefully sort that out!

All in all, as with any change, it will take a while to get used to, but if the bugs get fixed then we think it looks pretty good.
