Don’t do a Hoover!
Security is imperative. We trust computers to take care of some of the most sensitive business tasks including banking, buying and communicating with clients. Security has been the forefront of many newspapers in the past few years, with businesses being hacked (what seems) all the time. It’s fair to say that keeping your details secure has never been more important. Passwords are the most obvious form of security that we use on a daily-basis. Logging in and out of accounts and websites has become second nature to us. However, being safe and secure with your passwords is imperative to the safety and security of your accounts. Here’s some of our password dos and don’ts:
- Try to create longer passwords and phrases. Short passwords are, quite simply, easier to crack.
- Don’t use the same password for all your accounts. Each and every password should be unique, so if you suffer the hacking of one account your others aren’t at risk.
- Mix up the passwords you create with lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and symbols.
- Don’t pick passwords that are general information about yourself (e.g. your birth date, your pet, your address). These types of passwords are easy to guess and your account could be hacked into as a result. The best types of passwords are words that are totally made up and mixed with other characters other than letters.
- Store your passwords securely. There are numerous free password-storing programs out there. Using them will keep you passwords safe, secure, and all in one easy-to-access place.
- Don’t use popular sequences (e.g. 12345, qwerty). These are too simple and easy for people to crack.
