Having a website for your competition is an absolute essential. That seems like an obvious statement, but it’s true; any competition that doesn’t exist in an online format, quite simply, does not fully exist in this age. This is generally understood among all business owners, and therefore, there are millions of different competition websites floating about the internet trying to impress and draw in traffic from visitors.

That means it’s more important than ever that your website stands out amongst the rest and is looking smart, professional and friendly to your visitors. Here at Code String, we say your website should:

Be responsive

There are hundreds of different devices that are used nowadays, all with different screen sizes and proportions as well as different user interfaces. In this day and age, it’s highly unlikely that your website will receive visits from only PC users. Responsive design of your website has never been more important. If your website is more likely to receive a visitor from a tablet than from a desktop PC, why would you have your website responsive and user-friendly only to PCs? You wouldn’t. Finding an effective responsive design is a great idea because once you have invested the money and found a perfect solution for your website, this can be scaled and appropriately transferred to almost any device that is or is going to be put on the market.

Be simple and professional

Have you ever visited a website that, as soon as you have hit go, has avalanched you with pop-ups, jazzy animations and various other annoying features? It automatically puts people off your website as they don’t know what they are looking at and where what they want to find/know is. Having a simple and easy-to-operate website can be the difference between someone visiting and leaving, to a visitor staying and purchasing goods/services from you.

Have a simple, but relevant domain name

Buying a domain name is important, as it displays professionalism, quality and consistency. They are usually inexpensive and can be purchased from reputable online domain stores such as Go Daddy or 123-Reg. It is also important that you choose a domain name that is simple and represents your business. Having your business name is, obviously, the best option. However, if that isn’t available, you may have to try and find an alternative that is short, snappy and still relevant to your business.

Have a blog

Blogs play an integral part in good SEO. Search engines now like to see organic growth, activity and interaction from websites. Letting the search engines know that your business is still very much alive and kicking is the best way to achieve good search engine rankings. Writing a blog not only improves this, but is a great way for you to interact with your fans, offer advice, and get your stuff shared on social media platforms. It doesn’t need to take a lot of time, and since you are the ultimate whizz in your line of work, it won’t be difficult for you to offer out to your fans some useful, simple advice and information that’l keep them coming back for more, right?

Have easy-to-locate links and contact information

Your website is there to serve a purpose, and the ultimate goal is to market your business through it and have customers generated as a direct result of it. Therefore, you should make it super easy for visitors of your website to find your contact numbers and the basic information about the products/services that you offer. Without this, you could easily have a visitor leave your website and go to a competitor’s site that’s easier to grasp. Another thing to mention is that more and more businesses are integrating a ‘Click-to-call’ function. This is as a direct result of the amount of traffic that comes about through smartphones and other devices.’Click-to-call’ buttons can be largely beneficial to visitors of your website who want to call you straight from your website.

Include text keywords

Including multiple versions of your company logo is great. However, a search engine will want to pick up text keywords in order to improve your SEO. It’s important that keywords in a text format are included in your website. This will help with your SEO when people search for keywords that apply to you. Keywords are less essential to good SEO than they were, though, due to their misuse in the past. However, it is still important to include in those keywords!

Have secure and easy-to-make payments

Online purchases are more and more popular, and a business is instantly benefitted if they sell their products online. However, it is imperative that all purchases made through your website are secure. Something becoming increasingly popular for websites to offer is the option to pay for a product through a PayPal transaction. Many internet users have PayPal accounts as it is the best way of sending money securely and is trusted by its users. It’s free to integrate PayPal payments into your website and is likely to notably increase the amount of people that purchase products/services through your website. PayPal will take only a small fee from payments made to you, and the extra revenue is likely to over-shadow any fees you incur.

Use social media

Social media goes hand-in-hand with your website and plays a part in your search engine rankings. Having social media is a great idea, in particular, if you are posting blogs. This is a way of publishing your content to other online channels and to a new audience. This often causes traffic driven back to your website, where your audience can read more of your blogs and (hopefully) browse through your services/products. Social media is also a great opportunity for people to share on your content. This can have almost the same effect as a testimonial, as somebody external to the business is sharing your content among their fans and recommending it to them. Strong relationships and often business exchanges can happen as a result of social media use.
