BYOD; it stands for Bring Your Own Device, for those of you who may be unfamiliar with the term. It refers to not using business IT devices for your work; but bringing your own personal devices and working from them at your workplace. BYOD policies are becoming more and more popular, as people streamline their workload and processes, and opt for an all-in-one style device for, both their personal and professional use. If fact, the phenomenon has become so popular, that there are now BYOA (bring your own app) apps available for workers. So, should you be supporting BYOD in your workplace? Here’s 4 reasons why it might be beneficial to your business:
- Quite simply, you are not having to update your employee’s devices every five years. By allowing a BYOD policy, people are updating their smartphones to the latest and greatest available, without having to wait or use out-dated devices that might slow productivity.
- By allowing a BYOD policy, employees are likely to be more motivated. By allowing this personal-work cross over, employees are likely to feel trusted in their role.
- With the familiarity and fondness that employees have to their devices, the workforce is likely to be more productive. As well as this, time isn’t having to be spent by employees learning how to use their new devices that may work on a different operating system.
- With the option to choose a smart phone, phablet, tablet, netbook etc.; employees will feel more valued by their employer. Having a personal choice will mean that employees are more interested and engaged in the devices they buy and bring into work.
