Okay, we continue to deliver on our promise to keep you up to date with the people who make Code String what it is – a dynamic business. Introducing Lara, who joins as an apprentice but, as the title says, is not a typical apprentice.
Six years ago, Lara graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a B.Sc. in Animation & Special Effects. Exciting stuff and a very progressive industry sector. Britain has some of the best animators in the world.
Since then, Lara has been working as an ophthalmic optician lab technician. Hmm, not quite as exciting and arguably not that lively.
So what changed? Why the move to Code String? A year ago, Lara became a mum. That altered her perspective on life (all you parents out there will recognise this shift of focus) and led to the realisation that she wanted to pursue the career she studied for, and which she still finds absorbing. The next step was one she took to ensure she would get up to speed with her chosen field of expertise: she became an apprentice. And that brought her to Code String.
Her apprenticeship course involves software testing and includes elements of coding. It will last a year; maybe 18 months. After that, Lara plans to have impressed the Code String team enough to be invited to stay. I can tell you that she’s made a great start. Thanks to her coding experience, she is able to assist most members of our team, while learning new stuff along the way. Everyone’s happy.
Animation, special effects and software are not her only passions. As well as her new perspective on life, Lara might rekindle an old one: she once enjoyed boxing and hopes to take this up again alongside being a working mum!
