I’m Richard van Aken, and I have been working at Code String for four and a half years.
Well, I actually set up the business with Steve four and a half years ago, but I like to go by the title of Lead Developer and stick to the developing side of things.
Life at Code String is varied, but the first thing I always do every day is make a cup of tea and then organise my task list for the day. There are all sorts of projects we work on but the main thing I have been working on this morning is integrating a bespoke stock/invoicing system with SageOne Online.
Taking a lunch break is important to me to clear my mind, and I like to get away from the office and do something healthy, such as swimming at the local leisure centre followed by a chicken salad. I’m not a fast food fanatic like some of my colleagues!
Afternoons are as varied and interesting as the mornings, and today I copied some images to a server in readiness for a client email, fixed a coding issue, and had a conversation about hosting our own NuGet packages on Visual Studio Online. The geek talk in the office gets really good sometimes!
The thing I like most about coding is learning new things. I also really like helping other developers.
National Coding Week runs from 19th – 25th September 2016. To celebrate the world of coding and do our bit to encourage more people to join us, we are blogging every day this week about the day in the life of a coder.
