Do you remember the fairground games we used to love to play as kids? Hook a duck, shoot ’em up, tin can alley… Harmless games that required a small level of skill but came with the enormous promise of an amazing stuffed toy prize if you were any good.
This desire to win prizes through such simple games doesn’t diminish when you’re an adult, it’s just that you’re more likely to play the game on a computer than surrounded by the noise of the waltzers and the smell of candyfloss.
Fairground-type computer game shave been around a long while, but the use of Flash to build them has meant that most of them couldn’t be played on an iPad. Given that the number of iPad users was up 125% in the last year and is predicted to reach 11.6 million this year (18% of the UK population),we decided to look for a solution that would allow all these people to have as much fun as the rest of us.
Using JavaScript, we’ve built some really cool fairground games for a client of ours. Proper old school shoot the duck games. The games are on their website and anyone can play them, with the highest scoring player winning a prize. Not a cuddly toy though, sadly, but a prize that fits in with their overall marketing strategy. Yes, there’s more to these games than just time wasting!
